Friday Night Poetry Fun
Arriving an hour and a half late to InKY Reading series wasn’t all bad since I got to catch the last reader, Adrian Matejka, who bought me a drink for correctly answering which 80′s movie he alluded to in a poem. The Karate Kid, if you were wondering. The line was something like “getting down like Danny Larusso after an illegal leg sweep.” Trivia and Poetry! Two of my favorite things, so the night was starting off well. I would recommend you pick up a copy of his book, Mixology, published by Penguin.
Jimmy Besseck had invited some Berea poet kids up for InKY and an after-party at his place. Only one poet made the trip but that didn’t hinder him or these Louisville poets from their practice of camaraderie–an 80 proof mix of poetry readings, political rants, drinks, writing games and more drinks. It was just the right amount of drunkenness to make for a fun evening that doesn’t cross the line to insane. I think I have finally recovered at 10:00am on Sunday. I would like to thank him and his wife for their hospitality and thank all of the wonderful Louisville kids I met (and that sole Berea chap) for a most enjoyable evening.
